Associated Press News and Photos Offered in FluentMedia Content Service

CHICAGO (April 23, 2002) -- FluentMedia, a content-licensing agency of Tribune Media Services (TMS), and The Associated Press, the world's oldest and largest news agency, have agreed to add AP news and photos to FluentMedia's content service, which includes news from top international information providers. The announcement was made today by John Twohey, general manager of FluentMedia. TMS is a subsidiary of Chicago-based Tribune Company (NYSE: TRB).

AP Digital, a division of The Associated Press that distributes news and information to Internet and wireless customers and services, will deliver top domestic and world news stories, international news in five languages, and a daily feed of breaking news photos from more than 240 AP bureaus worldwide.

"We're pleased to include content from one of the world's premier news-gathering organizations," said Twohey. "This relationship will provide our customers with deep coverage of national and international news in many important areas--from business to entertainment and sports."

Beginning in May, FluentMedia will receive approximately 700 articles a day from AP Online, one of the AP's premier services. The content will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to Web sites that subscribe to FluentMedia's services. AP articles will include key stories on national and international business, financial markets, entertainment, health and wellness, politics and government, and technology.

FluentMedia will also offer customers comprehensive international news in Spanish, French, Dutch, Portuguese and German from the AP WorldStream service. In addition, FluentMedia customers will also have the option to subscribe to photos from AP PhotoStream, a daily feed of hundreds of breaking news photos from around the world.

"Our goal is to offer our customers content from an elite lineup of the most respected information sources," Twohey said. "This new alliance with The Associated Press and our recently announced partnership with The Wall Street Journal secure a place for FluentMedia among the top players in the content-licensing arena."

"We are pleased to have our news and photos included in FluentMedia's distribution channels," said Thomas E. Slaughter, vice president and director of AP Digital. "This agreement will provide their customers with increased choices for top domestic and world news, and offer us another opportunity to distribute AP news to the online market."

Using advanced filtering technology, FluentMedia delivers customized packages of news, commentary and analysis to corporate clients for use on their intranets, extranets and public marketing sites. Content is drawn from major newspapers, trade publications and other sources.

Among the media organizations whose content is now available through FluentMedia are The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Newsday, Baltimore Sun, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and other major-market dailies; Knight-Ridder/Tribune Business News; CNET News; the National Journal Group; the Gale Group; and Crain Communications.
